Nice bike ride or walk – starting from Finca Alamo. The walk is just over 13 km long in total. As a hike, it is best suited if you get freight back from Casares to Finca Alamo.
The tour is also available on Google Maps with street view so you can follow the entire route there if desired
The trip can be taken as a relatively long walk. You can then choose to drive your car to Route Point 1 and start there. The trip is then shortened by about 4km. An even shorter variant as a walk is described in the route you will find in a separate field on this page.
The route runs on good and varying surfaces, firm, gravel, paths and grass. Between route points 6 and 7 there are some sections that can be a little demanding with such a steep and poor surface that you should rent a bike. However, this only applies to a small part of the tour.
On the tour, you’ll get great views of Finca Alamo. You’ll also enter Casares and can choose to explore some of the city.
Route point 1
This is approximately 2 km from Finca Alamo. Turn left up the hill here. If you are walking, it may be worthwhile to drive here and start your hike from here.
Route point 2 Intersection 1
There are roads to the left and right here. But you should continue straight ahead.
Route point 3 Intersection 2
Route point 5 Intersection 3
Here you should take the road to the right. The road to the left leads down to the Venta Garcia restaurant. You can get back to Fina Alamo this way. Some parts of the route are a little steep and winding by bike, but you can still get there easily if you wish. This is described in a separate route for walking
Route point 6 Narrower and steeper
Route point 7 Lowest point of the tour
Here you cross a stream/river. If the water flow is high, you may get your legs a little wet. But usually it is easy to cross.
Route point 8 Junction 4
At this intersection you will reach a road with a solid surface. Follow the road gently to the right.
Route point 9 Junction 5
Here you continue straight ahead. However, a detour to the left is recommended. It’s a round trip that enters the route a little further on. Then you will see the memorial “Fosa común del Cerro de la horca” – a mass grave from the Spanish Civil War (pictured left here) There was a rebellion in Casares that led to many deaths.
Route point 10 Junction 6
At this junction you will meet your route again if you take the detour to Fosa común Cerro de la Horca
Route point 11 Soon Casares
As you approach Casares, there are several roads leading up to the main road back to Finca Alamo. We recommend taking the road through the city center and then up to the main road (cycling against the direction of travel is permitted according to the sign).
Route point 12 Center of Casares
Feel free to make a stop in the city center, e.g. at the café located on the small square. Or take a trip up to the ruins and the church and enjoy the view.
Follow the route further: Take the hill that continues sloping to the right and follow it until you meet the main road.
Route point 13 On the main road back to Finca Alamo
Turn right here and follow the main road back to Finca Alamo. The rest of the trip is a nice asphalt road, mostly downhill.
