This is a relatively long but nice round trip on foot that leads into the Sierra Crestelina to great viewpoints. The tour is a total of about 11 km with a total ascent of 630 meters.
The tour follows much of the same route as the two tours linked to on the right here. It is a round trip that can be done in the opposite direction.
The tour takes you to the top of Pico Las Chapas. It’s a great hike that takes you up to around 940 meters above sea level with fantastic views and great birds flying around. It is relatively steep and demanding up there, so you can skip this part if you think it will be too tough.

Route point 2

Early on the route you pass Fuente de la Arquita – the Arquita fountain. As part of the 18th century reforms, a drinking water network was built in Casares, where the spring and wells in Puerto de las Viñas were channeled to bring water down two kilometers to the center of Casares. The Arquita fountain belongs to this project. It was built with its own water supply in 1783, during the reign of Charles III. It acts as an intermediate reservoir and overflow channel, allowing the water to stagnate on its final journey before reaching its destination in the beautiful four-peaked neoclassical fountain located in the Plaza de España in Casares.
Route point 3
Puerto de las Viñas Here you come to a crossroads where you must continue straight ahead through the barrier.
Route point 4
Crossroads where you take a detour to the top of the mountain Pico Las Chapas. The hike to the top (946 meters above sea level) is steep and demanding, but at the same time a great nature experience.
At the junction there is a sign with a large picture of all the birds of prey you can see in the area. Feel free to take a look.
Route point 5
The peak – Pico de las Chapas – is 943moh.
The hike up is relatively steep. Make sure you have good hiking boots and plenty of drink and preferably a good snack. Check the temperature before the trip. It can be very hot on the way up in the summer months, and it can be surprisingly cold in the winter months. The views from the top are fantastic and you’re likely to see large birds of prey such as vultures, eagles and falcons soaring above and below you.
