People Aged 60 and Over from Eiker on a Trip to Finca Alamo
Community, adventures, and wonderful days under the Spanish sun
It’s hard to put a trip like this into words. From the very first moment, our days at Finca Alamo were filled with gratitude, fellowship, experiences, and many wonderful moments together. For a group of about 40 people, the trip to Finca Alamo was a journey we won’t soon forget—a little taste of heaven.
An Exciting Arrival
On the afternoon and evening of Saturday, September 5, our friends arrived at Finca Alamo. An eager and enthusiastic group of about 40 people took over the beautiful finca and were quickly captivated by the place and its stately surroundings.
We really enjoyed Finca Alamo. We were so grateful to be able to spend time together like this, and we were blessed to share many days and many meals.
Strong bonds were formed through encouragement, conversations, laughter, and a sense of well-being. The community became the very framework for the entire stay.
“The Body of Christ”—We Are All Equally Important
The theme of the trip was “The Body of Christ.”
It was about “us”—about how we belong together, and how everyone has a place and a purpose. No one is more important than anyone else. We need each other, and together we form a single body.
Another important perspective was that of reflection—taking a moment to pause and consider what truly brings us joy. When we are granted the grace to “humble ourselves,” we can stand in that humility and find the true value in serving one another.
This wasn’t just a topic we talked about. It shaped the days we spent together.
Spanish Night with Tapas
Sunday evening was Spanish night at Finca Alamo. The tables were filled with tapas, and the evening was a wonderful combination of good food, fellowship, and fun.
There were many heartfelt testimonies, and it was clear just how much the fellowship meant to everyone. An evening filled with both solemnity, joy, and gratitude.
Beach Life and Sun on the Mediterranean
On Monday, it was time to enjoy the Spanish sun. We had reserved breakfast and lounge chairs by the sea at Les Tournesols, and since it was a warm day, swimming and beach life were naturally high on the agenda.
After a wonderful day by the sea, the gathering continued into the evening. There was plenty of singing, entertaining performances, and many good conversations.
There’s something special about being able to put everyday life aside, relax, and just be together.
Things to Do in Casares and Estepona
The following days were filled with exciting experiences in the surrounding area.
We visited Casares, the beautiful white village perched dramatically on the mountainside. There, we explored the narrow streets, the whitewashed houses, and the unique atmosphere that makes Casares one of the most famous “pueblos blancos” on the Costa del Sol.
The trip also took us to the old town of Estepona, where we were able to stroll through the charming streets, admire the beautiful flowers, and enjoy the town’s unique atmosphere.
We also got to explore the famous sulfur caves near Casares —a completely different side of the area than what you encounter along the coast.
Good food and good advice
Good food was a natural part of the trip. But just as important as the food on the table was what we shared with one another.
The days were filled with good advice, conversations, and encouragement. Mealtimes weren’t just breaks to eat, but natural gathering points where we could be together, share experiences, and encourage one another.
A memorable evening by the sea
On Tuesday evening, after spending some time at the beach and strolling through town, we headed to Camuri Laguna, a wonderful restaurant right on the water.
We were served the most delicious dishes here, and the evening was an experience in itself.
As darkness fell, we could make out Morocco in the distance. At the same time, we could clearly see Gibraltar. It was a magnificent sight—the Mediterranean Sea before us, Africa on the horizon, and a vast sky above us.
A Trip to Gibraltar
On Thursday, it was time for yet another adventure. For some, the trip took them to Gibraltar, where they got to explore the British enclave at the southernmost tip of the Iberian Peninsula.
This day, too, became a wonderful part of my travel memories—with new impressions and experiences to take home with me.
Everyone had a chance to contribute
At Finca Alamo, the program wasn’t just about activities and leisure. We also wanted everyone to have a chance to contribute.
The kitchen work was therefore divided among groups so that everyone could help out a little with cooking and washing dishes.
It worked incredibly well.
The work went smoothly and without a hitch, and here, too, we got to experience something that was the very theme of the trip: We are one body, and everyone has a role to play.
When many people each contribute a little, it becomes both easy and enjoyable.
A moving conclusion
The last evening was perhaps the most uplifting of the trip.
Everyone had a chance to speak and express their gratitude. It was a moving evening during which many put into words what their time together had meant to them.
As the votes were tallied, it became clear just how much God had given us during these days—not only through all the experiences, but first and foremost through our fellowship.
A memory to last a lifetime
When we look back on our days at Finca Alamo, it’s hard to find the right words.
We got to enjoy the sun and warmth, the beach and the sea, beautiful towns, good food, and exciting excursions. But the most important thing was the people and the wonderful sense of community.
We got to be together. We got to serve one another. We got to sing together, laugh together, eat together, and share our thoughts and gratitude.
We came to appreciate the value of being part of the body of Christ.
It was truly a journey we will carry with us for the rest of our lives—a little taste of heaven.
