In Andaluc\u00eda, the term <em data-start=\"765\" data-end=\"781\">Paraje Natural<\/em> is used for a protected natural area that has special geological, biological or landscape value. It is a protection category that aims to preserve nature while allowing the area to be used for outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism.  <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1034\" data-end=\"1172\">A <em data-start=\"1037\" data-end=\"1053\">Paraje Natural<\/em> can therefore be compared to a Norwegian protected area or a smaller nature reserve with facilitated access for visitors.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"19on5uw\" data-start=\"1174\" data-end=\"1213\">Why is the mountain range called &#8220;Bermeja&#8221;?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1215\" data-end=\"1603\">The name <em data-start=\"1222\" data-end=\"1231\">Bermeja<\/em> comes from the Spanish word <em data-start=\"1261\" data-end=\"1270\">bermejo<\/em>, which means reddish or rusty red. Sierra Bermeja gets its name from the characteristic color of the mountain. The bedrock consists mainly of peridotite, a rare ultrabasic rock rich in iron. When the iron oxidizes, the rock takes on a distinctive reddish-brown color that can be seen from afar.   <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1605\" data-end=\"1855\">This geology is so special that the Sierra Bermeja is considered one of the world&#8217;s largest peridotite massifs. The peculiar soil conditions have created a unique flora and fauna with many endemic species found only here. <\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"pnv2o0\" data-start=\"1857\" data-end=\"1895\">Why is the area called &#8220;Los Reales&#8221;?<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1897\" data-end=\"2377\">The name <em data-start=\"1904\" data-end=\"1916\">Los Reales<\/em> has historical roots. In older Spanish, <em data-start=\"1963\" data-end=\"1969\">real<\/em> meant, among other things, a military camp or royal encampment. Over the centuries, the higher areas of the Sierra Bermeja were used as strategic vantage points and temporary camps.  <\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1897\" data-end=\"2377\">Eventually, the name became associated with the mountain peak and the surrounding area, which today is known as Los Reales.  <em><strong>The peak is around 1450 meters above sea level and is one of the highest points in the The hike goes into a valley that extends into Pasada del Pino. You can walk back and forth, or take a round trip as the tour descriptions below show.  <\/p>\n<p>The tours can be taken on <strong>foot or by bike<\/strong>starting at Finca Alamo. You can also drive a car in the area. The tours can be shortened by driving the car a short distance and walking around the area to get back to the car.  <\/p>\n<p>The tours go into an area characterized by beautiful nature, scattered settlements with both holiday homes, permanent residents and fincas. Towards Pasada del Pino you are in a typical Spanish mountain area. At one point you pass an area used for feeding birds of prey. You are almost guaranteed to see a good number of beautiful birds on the trip.  <\/p>\n<p>The three tours are variants in the same area and overlap. They can of course be combined.
